How To Take Your Thrifty Gift And Make It Fabulous!

Presentation is everything when giving a thrifty gift. Very nearly every one out there has probably received a gift that looked suspiciously like the giver had just stopped at a store, picked up the first thing they saw and dumped it into a gift bag; pretty unforgettable.  I am also fairly certain that at one time in your life you received a gift, wrapped so beautifully you were hesitant to unwrap it.  I also bet you still remember what it was, who gave it to you and how lovely it was wrapped.

Again, presentation is everything.

I know most of us are on a tight budget, me included, and that you would rather spend the bit extra on the gift instead of wrapping paper, ribbon and bows for that same gift.  After all its sole purpose is to look pretty for a few minutes and then be ripped into shreds and thrown away. But it doesn’t have to be that way.  If you plan ahead and do just a few simple things, the person who receives your gift will not only remember what you gave then, but how much time you spent making the package look terrific.  They’ll feel special.

First thing to do is to get a gift box.  Not an empty cracker box or brown shipping box, although recycling is good, just not in this case.  Take the trouble to get a plain, white, gift box.  They are easily found in most discount stores with the wrapping paper, even when not the merriest gift giving season around.  They can also be found at most card stores, party stores and container stores.  The cost is minimal, depending on the size.

Next, buy some white tissue paper.  Not the color variety or the kind with animals, snowmen or other designs on it, but plain, white tissue paper.  The reason for this is that the simple white tissue paper looks more up-scale, like a high-end department store.  Also a plus for the budget, it’s cheaper than the
