Antique! Vintage! Historic! I often hear these words along with: Original Condition! Patina! Patina, that’s a favorite of mine. You know what patina is? It’s the accumulation of wear, dirt and oxidation that quickly turns a precious statue or desk into that ugly thing you hide in the basement or garage. I love to take found items, thrift store finds and turn them into other items that I hope others can enjoy. That of course means taking apart, cutting even painting that item, so you may or may not recognize it from its original form. For some this amounts to sacrilege. Yes I know that 1980’s era jacket I bought for the buttons and will now turn into a purse may never be seen again. Yes I have heard about the hundred thousand dollar painting bought at a Goodwill for ten dollars. I watch Antiques Road Show just like everyone else and I must admit I often wonder who would buy that item for that price and better yet, why would anyone have saved it - collected it - preserved it, in the first place? Not me! And that was what made that item have that certain something, that value -- no one thought to save it, clean it, etc and then like magic it’s worth upteen dollars. It’s called seeing into the future. I can’t do it. Neither can most other people -- remember the Cabbage Patch Kids doll of the 80’s and people standing in line to buy one? I do and I
